Show 2 random options among a longer list (Snowman)

Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a very simple CYOA on Twine 2.
As soon as I start the story I would like to have several passages, but I want the users to see only two of them chosen randomly among them every time they reload the page.
By doing that the same user could play more than one time and it will be likely to have different outcomes every time.

At the moment I am using Snowman and I tried to use "print either" or "display either", but the results are both confusing and disappointing (see the pic attached).
I am ok to change story format if necessary, but I was using Snowman as it is more "clean" and it behaves better when embedded inside my website.

So I'm using twine 2.12 online for my university coursework. I am literally on my final passage but it crashes. I reload the page but now everything is gone. My internet history has not been deleted so I've tried reopening it from my history but it just takes me to the welcome home page.

I've tried using different browsers but again it just says I have no stories. Whats weird is that whenever I try to re import the story it loads but then deletes it. Furthermore on my original browser even though my stories have been deleted it says I've got 94% of storage left.

Please tell me there is a way to fix this, this is my dissertation and its due tomorrow

Trouble adding Sugarcube 2.18 to Twine 2.1.1

I'm upgrading to Twine 2.1.1 and Sugarcube 2.18 on Windows. I uninstalled Twine and installed the new version ok, and I've followed the instructions about adding the Sugarcube format.js to Twine, but it's stuck showing "Loading" with the animation. Windows Task Manager shows activity in Twine (>0% and <1% CPU, and about 400kb/s I/O), but it's not moving from that point - I've been waiting over an hour so far.

Have you seen this issue before? I couldn't find anything on the web about it.

I have no idea what's going on with Twine 2.1.2

I created several passages in a story and quit. Returned later to work on it and...I don't even know. All my passages are piled on top of one another in the top left corner and can't be moved from the corner. I can drag them to a different place but they all automatically snap back into the corner the instant I release the mouse button.

If I turn on snap to grid I can slowly nudge them out of the corner, however doing this breaks the links to the different passages...but not really. The story plays as it should when I test it but the arrows pointing to the passages for whatever reason disappear.

As a final touch, the story statistics page has my story at 10 passages...I only have 6 passages. So I either have invisible passages now or Twine is seriously borked, which it obviously is.

Anyone encounter these kinds of critical issues yet or better yet, how to fix them?

Hi guys,

I'm new to Twine and I've discovered that Twine has thrown away the <<textinput>> format because I saw that this format used to be the old one. I've looked literally all over the internet, I don't know how to read codes, there's no information ANYWHERE on how to simply incorporate a text box aka let the player input text. I'm not talking about putting in their name, I'm talking about actually typing in something. To be more specific, I want the player to type in what it is they are afraid of. Please help, my game is due for a college project on Tuesday ): And as stated, I have no idea how to read codes so if someone could just copy and paste the new format that'd be amazing <3

Broken links instead of new passages

Hi,

I'm working on a rather long story in Twine 2.1.2 Harlowe 2.0.1.

For some reason, when I'm creating a new link like typing in [[example]] Twine no longer creates a new passage on its own. Only a broken link with a red x at the end appears. So I have to click on "+Passage" and name the new passage myself, which is rather time-consuming...
Help, please?

The new releases are coming... 2.1.2 and now 2.1.3 in one week-end. I have tested rapidly the last one. And I can use it, for the first time in the 2.1. series ! Thanks.

I used it on a Linux 64 system with both online and locally installed versions. One thing keeps a little bit annoying : no automatic creation of the new passages... When I use [[New passage]] I see a link from the precedent passage with the infamous red cross at it's end. I then have to create the new passage manually... and after that all the links are in order.

I have seen that the new Harlowe format has now a black background. Is this a feature ?

this happened when I tried to run twine today. I checked my chrome for that extension and I didn't have one with that ID. Other than that I don't know what to do.

Sugarcube Disallow Certain Textbox input

Hello, I am new and using SugarCube 2.14.0

I was watching tutorials but i cant find one on how to make sure that u can disallow certain things to be input into a textbox. Say i am trying to ask for a name and they put numbers in the box how would i say make it not allow that? I am sorry about the newb question, but i am indeed a nebwbie.

Site Defaulting to New to Twine(?) screen

Hi!

I am using Twinery with my class and it has been working very well. However, today I was coming across a glitch that I could not solve.

We are using chromebooks. One of my students went to play his story but hit a "new to twine" page instead of his story. When he tried to go back, he continued to hit the same problem. He eventually got back to his home screen which told him that there were no stories saved. We pulled an old archive of his story and got that to load. However, when he went to play the old archive file, he continued to hit the "new to twine page" and could not play his story. Just wondering if there is a solution to this.

Is it possible to create random numbers with specific exclusions? I'm trying to make a very simple dungeon crawler, and I need a script for the enemies to target random party members. But I need to set it up so they don't have the option to target party members who are already at 0 HP. Is there a simple solution that I am missing? Sorry if I'm not phrasing things correctly or not giving enough information, this is my first time trying to learn any programming language.

I'm sure there's an easy way to do this but I just can't find it. I'm in Twine 2, so using Harlowe by default but willing to switch.

I want the player to be taken to the same passage next, but depending on which option to proceed they chose, a variable is set to different things. Say, picking an object to bring before they head down a path. They'll be going down the same path no matter what, but later it will matter which object they brought with them.

Sorry if this is a stupid question...

can't open twine app or import published works

I'm having the same exact problem as is detailed here. I'm sure I have the correct version, and I have tried downloading both the Win 64 and 32 versions of the Twine application. Both of them fail to work. The version I've been trying to download is the latest one, 2.1.3. What could be wrong, and how can I fix this?

Additionally, I can't import already published story .html files online. I've tried multiple times for multiple published stories. Whenever I choose the .html file to import, it just... doesn't work. The "Import from File" prompt message disappears and I'm back with the normal story list screen. There isn't an error message or anything.

Please help if you can! Thank you for reading.
